Target Audience Research

To gain a better understanding of what our music video and song need to involve, we made questionnaires with questions involving the audiences favourite genre of music, favourite RnB artists and other questions relating to what they want to see in a music video.
Our questionnaire is shown below...

The results for the first question are shown in the form of a bar chart below.

This graph shows that the most popular genre with our participants was R&B as it was 5 peoples favourite, this is good for our group because there is a broad range of songs that  we can look at for our music video and as RnB has many subgenres within it, we can choose the unique style we want to have. As the results showed that hip-hop was also very popular this could influence us to go towards an RnB song that contains some rap within the song, so that we can reach the audience of RnB and hip hop, which may also make our video more popular. As we have chosen the genre RnB soul due to the research it means we will reach most of our target audiences wants and as the song has a very large focus on the beat itself it also allows us to incorporate those that chose hip-hop.


The results for the second question have not been further analysed because the results showed too many options and there were few similarities between the participants answers, so we cannot use the results to further benefit our research.


The results for the third question are shown below in a pie chart.

The pie chart shows that the participants chose the ages of 23-29 as their most preferred as 60% selected it. This is good for our group because most RnB artists are in between these ages so it gives us a lot more options. However there is not that much of a difference between the amount of people who chose this age and the amount that chose 18-22  as it is only 20% difference. This is good because the artist that we are looking to do is in this age range and as the difference was very little it still allows us to have her as an option. As there was no one that chose the age range of 23-29 this shows that our audience want a younger artist which makes it a lot easier for us to create because ass we are 17 the actor that we will find will probably be this age too so they are likely to have the right look to match the artists age.
 The results for the fifth question are shown below

This question was about whether the respondents prefer a female or male artist to be the main focus of the video, we asked this because in the RnB genre a lot of videos have the women as the main focus and often in a very sexual way. The results show that there is no preference that will effect us because there was an equal amount that prefer each gender. This is good for us because whatever we choose there will be people that like it. Even though we do not currently know what gender we are going to have as the singer we still need to know about the story in the video because a lot of videos have the opposite sex as the main character in their video because of the story the song is telling.
The results for question 6

This question was asked with examples of pictures for each style, in the original questionnaire we gave them 6 options but we have narrowed this down to just the 4 female outfits because we had at this point decided who we are going to have be the singer of the song so we didn't need the data for the mens outfits. This line graph shows that the most popular style for the females was the casual outfit, this was very good for us because we showed them a picture of our artist Kehlani so they have shown us that they like her style the most. This means that our video will be positively received because they like her style already so all we need to do is make sure that whoever we have as out artist, dresses in the same way. The least popular style was the gothic female, this was good for us because out genre is RnB which does not often involve this style in any of their media products so for this to be the least favourite look its very beneficial for us.
