Bryson Tiller Sorry Not Sorry video Analysis

Bryson Tiller is of the music genre we have decided to  choose for our song choice which is RnB soul and below I am going to be analysing his music video for 'Sorry Not Sorry' as it will help us when creating our own video.
This is the link to his video:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U4MHrrIQuis

The video starts with the square shot with a thick black boarder around the actual shot which looks like it was shot with a different type of camera like a much older one but gives the video a unique effect from the start. In the shot itself shows something burning behind a wooden fence and throughout the video this theme of fire is very persistent and the video actually ends with the fire in the shot but just a different setting, This could be suggesting a possible message that the song has to the artist which then creates a relationship with the two as they are sharing messages with each other throughout the video. This shot also brings a realistic feel to the scene because its a similar shot to what a home video would look like which could suggest that he wants to how his real life or background through the images in the video.

This shot is a mid shot of the artists with a lot of the setting being shown which looks like a lower class suburban area with the house being slightly shown and the overall setting shown in the rest of the video is definitely in a suburban area and later on the shots show the more urban part of the place. This is quite a typical setting for this type of song and genre and can also be seen in many rap music videos which Bryson Tiller sometimes has featured in his songs so it appear that he is trying to mix hip hop and RnB together which works with the video. This shot also allows is to his clothing which is very casual and modest , the flannel shirt over the top is a popular style for men and the dark blue works well with the lighting of the video because it is quite dim and dull but when light it shown they have made it stand out over everything for example the fire is very bright up against the dull lighting. This shot will definitely be one we will try to use within our own video because it allows you to see the artist, their clothing and the setting seamlessly all at once.
This shows an extreme close up of just the artists face and a small part of the background. This shot allows the audience to create a connection with the artist because of how close they are to the camera. This shot looks very sleek and professional especially as they have made the focus of the camera all be on his face and not the letters in the background it makes sure that the audience are only focusing on him. The blurred writing in the left side of the shot is very bright and even though its blurred it still stands out but not too much so that the focus is deterred from the artist. It adds a vibrancy to the video and shows the theme that has been shown through out the video with the lighting because it appears to dull down the already dark colours but brighten the colourful colours like this red and the yellow and orange in the fire previously mentioned. This will also be a shot that we will use in our video to build the relationship with the audience and to also shows small details of our artist because this could be used to show a trademark such as piercings because as we can see in the shot you are able to see his earing and gold necklace which may not be as easy to see in a long or mid shot.

The focus in this shot has also been placed only on one item in the scene which is the lighter but mostly the flame. This correlates to the theme of fire that I have mentioned which has been in the video from start to finish so this small flame being the main focal point in this shot shows that there is an importance of fire that Bryson Tiller wants the audience to see when watching the video. This is again creating a relationship between the meaning of the song to the audience because of the repetition he clearly wants people to figure out why he has consistently shown fire within the video. The reflection on the car in the background of the red writing shows us that this is in the same place as they previously were in the shot above with the extreme close up and the red vibrancy is still shown even though the writing isn't directly being shown.

This low shot shows Tiller to be on top of a building passionately singing the song, this low angle shot could be showing him to be in power because he is the highest he can be and higher than everyone else around him. It also makes him look small as well as powerful which contrast with each other because the small are usually powerless but as he is the highest figure in the shot he is shown to be the powerful.

As Bryon Tiller has been the main focus point in this video it makes it all about him and allows the audience to feel a personal connection because of it being them and only him. The fire was the only other main feature of the video that I noticed because it would repeat itself from start to finish in different settings an with different props so by finishing the video with this shot it concludes it very well and effectively.
